POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Bozeman is seeking a full-time Custodian to perform a full range of custodial, cleaning, and light maintenance duties in City buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds. The primary duties and location of this position will be at the Bozeman Public Library. The ideal candidate will have the ability to create and maintain effective relationships with other City employees, particularly Library staff, and Library patrons.

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Thursday: 10:30am – 7:30pm
Friday & Saturday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
– Inspects work requests and materials requirements; prioritizes and ensures timely and appropriate completion.
– Troubleshoots problems, determines if specialized services are needed, confers with supervisor to determine whether City staff should undertake correction. Communicates with representatives of City departments to define needs, inform them of deadlines, and determine how and when the requested work will be performed.
– Sweeps, mops, scrubs and polishes floors.
– Vacuums mats, carpets and spot cleans carpeted areas.
– Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.
– Dusts shelves, counters, window blinds and similar fixtures.
– Periodically cleans windows in public areas.
– Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
– Removes bio-hazardous waste from temporary holding containers.
– Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
– Cleans lighting fixtures; may change tubes or bulbs.
– Reports the need for maintenance or repair on facilities and grounds.
– Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure building.
– Maintains the custodial supply area in a clean and orderly manner; orders supplies as required; mixes and refills chemical bottles on a regular basis.
– Adjusts, cleans and performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment.
– Performs basic grounds maintenance work such as watering plants; blows or sweeps walkways and sidewalks and picks up trash on grounds.
– Performs minor maintenance tasks such as changing lamps, furniture assembly and repair, light plumbing/bathroom fixture maintenance;
– Picks up and delivers materials; performs a variety of staff support such as lifting and moving materials.
– Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition; attends safety meetings; corrects or reports safety hazards.
– May be called upon to clean up spills, flooding or other emergencies.
– Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and other materials to insure proper strength for use.
– Responds to questions and complaints from the public; explains City policies and procedures to the public;
– Works in a non-disruptive manner in areas receiving heavy public use.
– Maintains records of work performed.
– May be required to drive a personal or City motor vehicle.
– Responds to emergency situations in off-hours as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
– High School Diploma or equivalent and;
– Some (1-3 years) of custodial or building maintenance experience;
– Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
