STATUS: Regular, full-time, non-union

PAY:  17.9060/hour

Position requires substantial contact with citizens; duties are primarily performed in an environment where hazards and discomforts are minor and controllable; some duties may be performed in seasonal weather conditions which are generally unavoidable.

Tasks:

Assist in the creation and administration of a wide variety of special events including, but not limited to, shelter rentals, dances, markets, sporting tournaments; secure contracts with event organizations for promotion of event and usage of complex; and assist in the development and implementation of promotions and marketing for programs and events, fundraise and securing sponsorships for events, develop partnerships with schools, businesses and community organizations.

Coordinate and facilitate special events; supervise and conduct on-site observances of programs and events in progress; monitor adherence to safety policies, procedures, and park rules.

Assist in general office duties at Fort Missoula Regional Park Headquarters within the Sports & Wellness office; assist in implementation of cash handling policies and procedures including credit card payments, cash reports, deposits, cash irregularities and daily deposits; assist with bi-weekly payroll procedures; assist with supervision of event support staff; assist in conducting follow-up evaluations with event participants and staff; evaluate program success and recommend changes for the future; assist in responding to complaints; assist in monitoring event budgets, assist with the creation and implementation of policies and procedures including risk management protocols; and related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of Parks & Recreation Department policies and procedures;
Knowledge of Parks & Recreation Department policies and procedures;
Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation administration, including budgeting, planning, program development, sports and wellness, fundraising and administration;
Knowledge of technical aspects of sports and wellness recreational programs;
Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee and volunteer supervision and training;
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
Knowledge of parks and recreation safety considerations and OSHA standards and guidelines;
Knowledge and ability to promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with City safety policies;
Skill in designing, leading, and supervising municipal recreation programs, and special events;
Skill in utilizing Word, Excel (spreadsheet), Outlook, database, electronic calendar software, and web-based facility software;
Skill in communicating in person and in writing;
Skill in conflict resolution and team development;
Skill in understanding and interpreting regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines;
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with schools, vendors, community service organizations, city employees, participants, and citizens;
Skills in obtaining sponsorships for events and programs;
Skills and experience with money handling procedures and payroll processing

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent, and four years of recreation program experience. Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, special event management, leisure services, park & tourism sciences, or related field preferred, Experience coordinating recreation events preferred. Current First Aid and CPR certification required.  Must be able to obtain a Montana driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
