Just 30 minutes east of Seattle and Tacoma, Maple Valley, Washington, (pop. 25,000),  is centrally located between the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. The City of Maple Valley’s Public Works Department consists of ten employees and the Community Development Department consists of eight employees. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Public Works Director/Community Development Director is responsible for overseeing all functions of the Public Works and Community Development Departments, including supervision of all employees. The Director is responsible for approximately $10 million in capital budget projects, and $4 million for the budget of both departments. A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, civil engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of management experience in a local government setting is required. The ideal candidate will have proven experience successfully managing multiple divisions and professional service contracts.
