 POSITION OVERVIEW:

 Salary Range: $18.2502 – $20.1585/hour, salary reflects Step 1 and Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant’s education, experience, and training.

Weekly Work Schedule:

  • 4-10 hour shifts which vary by operational needs and annual bid. Shifts are 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., 8:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. (additional shift differential is paid for noon and night shifts)
  • Days off: To Be Determined

Job Summary:

Responsible for performing a wide variety of specialized clerical duties in support of the Police Department including initiating, processing, and maintaining documents, correspondence and statistics; and providing information and assistance to officers and the public.

Scope of Responsibility:

Incumbents follow prescribed procedures in handling, classifying, filing or indexing data.  Working with readily available supervision, incumbents perform work according to clearly defined principles.  Incumbents may provide work direction to temporary office staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Record Maintenance

  • Enters, deletes, and updates information on people, stolen guns, vehicles, and articles on law enforcement network in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Keeps warrant information current.
  • Prepares and maintains program and operational records and files.
  • Sorts and prepares records for retention; reviews and makes copies as requested.

Administrative Support/Clerical Duties

  • Types a variety of documents including, taped statements, letters, records, reports, case supplements, court documents, forms, and updates and e-mails for briefing document.
  • Reviews other agencies’ information for items of local law enforcement interest; relays to appropriate personnel.
  • Processes officer requests for vehicles registration, driver’s license, wanted persons, record checks, and related information.
  • Prepares routine reports and reviews for completeness. Redacts confidential criminal justice information for public release.
  • Processes requests and makes inquiries into the NCIC and CJIN regarding information on vehicle registration, driver’s licenses, wanted persons, and criminal history records.
  • Issues routine permits and licenses; receives and issues receipts for funds for permits.

Customer Service

  • Answers phones; assists the public at the counter; provides information and answers inquiries; assists citizens in filing and obtaining police department documents; assists crime victims in obtaining benefits.
  • May work in high stress and emotionally charged situations.

Performs Other Duties as Assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years related work experience
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal and State criminal history background check
  • Must be able to obtain National Crime Information Center certification within six months of hire
  • Position requires reading communication, math, and problem-solving skills

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

Requires significant physical effort, moving between 25 and 60 pounds, on an intermittent basis (less than 15% of the time).  Requires high attention to detail or deadlines on a frequent basis (between 45% and 70% of the time).  Work requires exposure to multiple unfavorable elements, none of which are of greater than moderate intensity, on an intermittent basis (less than 15% of the time).
